Stone Dust

Crusher fines used for bedding, paving joints, filling and non-structural mortar.

Product overview

Stone dust, also called crusher dust or grit, is the fine by-product of rock crushing. It compacts tightly, drains reasonably and costs less than sand, which makes it the standard bedding and filling material on Indian sites.

It is not a straight substitute for concrete sand — the grading is different and the fines content is higher — but for bedding, filling and paver jointing it is often the better and cheaper choice.

Typical units: tonne, cft. Cheapest of the fine aggregates; freight is usually the dominant cost.

  • Bedding layer under paver blocks and tiles
  • Joint filling for interlocking pavers
  • Plinth and trench filling
  • Sub-base levelling
  • Non-structural mortar and blockwork where permitted

  • Buy by weight; stone dust compacts and its loose volume is unreliable.
  • Confirm the parent rock. Dust from hard granite or basalt performs better than soft limestone dust.
